The Centre of Cycling Sheffield

We’re passionate about improving cycling everywhere; but Sheffield holds a particular place in our hearts. It’s where we’re based, and with decades of experience living here the team at Wheelie Good Guys are keen to see cycling soar in the Steel City. As such, we’re embarking on our next challenge here at our excellent cycling interest website.

We want to get in touch with cycling clubs, cafes and any other cycling-themed organisations in Sheffield and the surrounding area; so that they can become a permanent fixture on the Wheelie Good Guys site. We’re looking to list information on cycling clubs in the area; and to write features on great cycling-themed places to drink and dine out in Sheffield.

Sheffield is a fantastic place; and there have been a number of events this summer that have gone towards helping to increase the profile of cycling within the Steel City – all of which have been extensively covered on the Wheelie Good Guys site:

2014 Tour de France Cycling

Dubbed by race director Christian Prudhomme as the ‘grandest Grand Depart‘ in the history of the race, the 2014 left Yorkshire locals absolutely buzzing – and it wasn’t just them.

Visiting spectators got a real eye for the cycling potential that Yorkshire has to offer; with over 2.5 million people lining the streets of the county throughout the two days it passed through. Sheffield’s streets were simply heaving with spectators.

Sheffield Grand Prix Cycling

On the 23rd July, the city centre was packed with excited cycling fans looking to follow up the success of the Grand Depart with more engrossing cycling viewing. It was a complete success, with thousands turning out to cheer on the competing cyclists.

On a wonderful summers evening, the entire route was teeming with fans; whilst local attractions like the Peace Gardens were bustling with atmosphere.

Sky Ride Sheffield Cycling

On Sunday 10th August, Sky Ride Sheffield completed a treble of fantastic cycling events hosted by the city this summer. Despite torrential conditions, thousands of participants still turned out to try their hand at cycling the designated route.

Passing through city highlights such as Bramall Lane and travelling along others like Ecclesall Road; the route gave those taking part the chance to cycle in places that typically would either not be possible or be too much of a challenge due to busy conditions.

You can read our exclusive perspective on the event here.
